Editorial Review
There’s nothing like watching small children fall in love with music. This baby grand will play Cupid to a toddler’s relationship to music. Just the right size for little fingers, with bright colors, lights, and familiar songs and learning concepts; kids will need no introduction before getting in there and starting to tickle those ivories! Three modes of play encourage children to enjoy music, learn basic concepts (alphabet, counting, opposites, etc.), or just play notes and chords on the eight-key keyboard. A plastic songbook (built into the piano) uses numerals on musical notation to teach aspiring musicians the correlation between the sounds they hear, the notes on the page, and the keys on the keyboard. Slides and buttons and dials can be manipulated to adjust tempo, pitch, and style, while a metronome keeps time. And a friendly maestro monster looms over the piano, dancing as your artiste creates composes her or his opuses. The music, as with so many children’s toys, is moderately unpleasant—nursery rhymes meet lounge jazz—but not the worst you’ll ever hear. And the joy toddlers will get out of playing their own melodies, as well as the potential for learning, far outweighs the burden of listening to cheesy tunes. Or you can just keep it in note-playing mode, and skip the pre-recorded tunes altogether! Three "C" batteries required (not included). Some adult assembly is required. --Emilie Coulter

She is 10 months old and really seems to like it. The piano does so many things and I forsee her having a lot of fun with it and am happy that I suggested it for a present. The reason I'm not giving this 5 stars is that my daughter, who is just learning to stand and cruise, stood up with the piano and she must of put to much weight towards the middle of the piano, while I was reaching for the camera, because the piano tobbled end over end with her following it. The piano started to do the same thing right after that when she tried to stand. She wasn't hurt, more scared then anything, but I would have thought it would be sturdy enough to handle her putting a little weight in the middle of it. I still recommend the piano, but stay within hands reach if your baby can't walk and keep themselves fairly steady on their own. 57 of 62 people found the following review helpful Pinches hands, Jorja Girl (San Marcos, CA USA) - See all my reviews This review is from: Fisher-Price Interactive Baby Grand Piano (Toy) We got this toy as a gift for my daughter's first birthday. The piano is great except for one thing. Little hands get stuck in the slot the sun moves in. The sun moves from side to side during certain songs, and my daughter and her friends love to grab at it when it starts doing this. Inevitably, someone's hand always gets pinched and makes them start crying/screaming. If Fisher Price ever redesigns this toy, I would recommend removing the sun from the toy or making it where it's immobile. I know this will probably not make the toy as fun, but safety comes first in my book. I give it three stars because of this hazard. 18 of 18 people found the following review helpful will entertain and teach for years, WinterMommy - See all my reviews = Durability: = Fun: = Educational: This review is from: Fisher-Price Interactive Baby Grand Piano (Toy) This is one of the best toys I've ever seen. I don't care for most of the newfangled plastic, electronic toys...most of them are junk. This one, however, is well-designed and will entertain a baby as well as even a 5 or 6 year old, in my opinion. I used to teach music at the elementary school level, and I think my kindergarteners and first-graders would have loved it.The controls are all easy enough to operate that even a 9-month-old (the suggested earliest age) can operate them easily...none of them require too much strength or dexterity, for instance. It teaches real musical concepts (high vs low, fast vs slow, etc) and has an actual, properly-working piano keyboard. The keys work like a real piano's does; if I press down 2 or 3 or 4 keys, they will all sound together, and the sound quality is like an actual piano, not a buzzy toy. There are so many different modes (there are three main modes, but when you turn the music "page" it brings up different... Read more |
